tea house pavilion

Miyazu Japanese Garden - Tea House
This photo was taken before some vandal/s set fire to it. I have heard that the tea house has since been restored, so am looking forward to visiting again sometime with my camera.

Tsukubai - (stone basin)
the basin is used for cleansing prior to participating in a tea ceremony and can be found to the right of this picture - in a sheltered spot under the magnolia tree

Miyazu Japanese Garden
Tea House Pavilion
this is the "moon window" - a sheltered space to sit and look out on the reflections
It would be nice to capture the reflection of the moon through this window one day

square window of the Tea House

Miyazu Garden
Tea House Pavilion
Two windows, one round and another square to contemplate the world beyond...
very Zen
this square window shows New Zealand flax leaves and a little of the pine tree

Miyazu Garden
after passing the Tea House Pavilion shed this is the view that greets you as you enter the garden

Photography Tip: When taking a vertical (portrait) shot, it's good to have something in the foreground that draws the eye into the photo...

stones, water and plants

Miyazu Garden
All the elements of a Zen garden brought together in a pleasing manner...
water, stone, plants...

wisteria covered pergola

Miyazu Garden
I like the archway effect, drawing you to explore beyond the vista...

Miyazu Garden - Nelson, south island, New Zealand
red bridge

Miyazu Garden
A Japanese garden wouldn't be complete without a red bridge somewhere...
Red allows you to get rid of delusion when attaining wisdom

bridge
Miyazu Garden

Looking more like Monet's garden than a Japanese garden but just as inspiring. It's not quite a moon bridge, but all the elements are there

water reflections

Miyazu Garden

with it not being a sunny day when I took this photo of the trees and water - I was surprised by the clarity of the reflections in the water

Miyazu Garden
stepping logs in the pond...
It was believed that if the path/bridge was zig-zagged, then the person walking on them would be able to confuse and evade any 'evil intentent'
Either way - it was a pleasant experience stepping and walking on these logs - and seeing the patterns in the wood

There's always something of interest that will catch your eye as you wander along
