Wellington Waterfront - Cam Theme - 41

sculpture at Wellington waterfront

The day I walked the waterfront, it was dusk, so many shadows are in these pics - since I was capturing the views away from the setting sun

the Stock Exchange building receiving the last few rays of sunlight...

shadows at dusk

Light orbs

Along the Wellington waterfront and stretching to Oriental Parade and beyond are these numbered disks - itersperced at 500m intervals.

I always wondered where they began...until now

Walking between the sheds, some of which have been converted into restaurants, I chanced upon these ducks taking a breather on what looks like to me to be a door.

The other attraction was the reflection

The waterfront in Wellington has many interesting views.

Something about the edge of this Shed 6 appeals...

Wellington's tallest building, The Majestic - this view is from the waterfront

If you look carefully, you can see the Fern Ball orb sculpture suspended over Civic square

this precariously placed, 2metre high, iron sculpture was a tricky one for me to capture.

It's entitled, Solace in the Wind - by English sculptor Max Patte and faces the ever present gales of Wellington.

As the sun set over Wellington, a full moon emerged.

10 seconds earlier and I would have had the perfect shot of a plane flying "through" the moon.

'It's true you can't live here by chance, you have to do and be, not simply watch or even describe. This is the city of action, the world headquarters of the verb.' (Lauris Edmond)

This photo is one of a multitude of typographic ‘text sculptures’ designed by award-winning Wellington typographer and graphic designer Catherine Griffiths.
They form part of what is known as "Wellington Writers Walk."

These are dotted along the Wellington waterfront, and sometimes in the most obscure places.

Each sculpture contains a quote by a well-known New Zealand writer who has strong Wellington connections.

This one just happened to appeal to me...

looks like purple Broome to me, but wouldn't have a clue as to it's real name

tiger coloured pansy

pink rose bud

no poetry needed...

a little corner of spring time goodness

red rose and water drops

lone yellow daisy-like flower

sweet smelling Lilac...

and it's unfurling bud.

pink/white rose

close up of the inner core after the rain

yellow Rose

not often seen in gardens, so I went a bit click-happy with my camera.

Springtime in Napier - Cam Theme - 39

Springtime in Napier.

Nothing says springtime more than blossoms, so there will be a few of them in this theme.

I just happened to be on a road trip at this time of year to capture some of these images.
The actual city of Napier and Art deco style architecture will have to be for another time.

Monarch butterfly - I've always tried to capture one of these beauties but until these pics, never was able to get anything that wasn't blurred. So, since I couldn't decide which one I liked best, they're both here.

This was in the garden of The Greedy Gannet café

wild and crazy - Livingston daisies - quite a few photos of these were taken throughout the gardens on marine Parade.

Viewing them all together, this one stood out the most.

south Wairarapa

this one was taken on wide angle

of vineyards and sunlight

driveway to Wairau valley, south island

late afternoon rural, I stopped to take this one

Monday, August 25, 2008

near Blenheim, south island

a winter sunset I HAD to capture.

It was far more intense than this, but my camera had run out of batteries. Lucky for me there was a rural store nearby so I could get a digital record.
Light Effect

on the eastern shore of Wellington harbour
not the greatest photo, but something about it appeals...

Light effect

another one from Lake Taupo - late afternoon in summer
the sparrow on the fence pole was very tame and chirpy

Light Effect

Sunshine through the mid-afternoon mist at Pahiatua, lower north island

Light Effect

a lone park bench at the end of the day in Taupo, north island

this one appeals, because the bench faces away from the lake and the sunset...

- Light Effect -

this is what happens when lamps get leighed...
